Compendium - Gods of the Atia and Oun

Auraura, the Sun

Appearance

Auraura is the sun, and thus and the colours gold, yellow and white. Her gem is amber. She has no quarter of the year, but is worshiped all year round, as explained below.

Domain

Auraura is the goddess of the sun, of light and of warmth.

Worship

Auraura is one of the few gods who is worshiped by both the [humans]] of Rune, Oun, Magador and the atia, for she is the sun, and the sun banishes darkness, brings warmth and gives life. Thus, she is very important to both races (though less so to the dwarves, who live much of their lives underground). The atia are generally more refined in their worship of the gods. They do not often hold gatherings purely for worship, or openly pray in groups. Auraura is the exception, though. At the beginning of every Quarter on the calendar, the atia will gather to usher in the new period of the year. This is less practical now that the atian race is fragmented and scattered throughout Iiosia, though they will gather in small groups where they can to observe this vigil. This ceremony begins at midnight on the first day of the new Quarter and lasts until dawn. Candles are lit at midnight and extinguished at dawn's breaking.

Aramis, the God of Fire and Flame

Appearance

Aramis is the god of fire. The planet Aramis is the one that orbits closest to the sun. Aramis is seen within flames everywhere; anything from candles, hearths and raging city fires. His colours are red and orange. His gem is the ruby. His is the second quarter of the year - summer.

Domain

Aramis is the god of fire. He is brother to Auraura, and thus they are similar in many ways. Aramis, however, is more destructive and volatile. He is also, unsurprisingly, strongly associated with the arc of Fire magic.

Worship

Aramis is well respected and feared. The destructive nature of fire is well known, as is the power and unpredictability of fire magic. While every atia respects Aramis, it's felt that to hold him in too high a regard is dangerous, for one may be tempted by the power that fire brings, and fire magic is also strongly akin to dark magic.

Innicas, Father of the Waters

Appearance

Innicas appears within the waters contained in rivers, lakes and seas. His colours are purple and blue. His stone is the sapphire.

Domain

Innicas has dominion over the waters which lay upon the earth - rivers, lakes and seas. He is also the lord of fish and other aquatic life, and is of course the deity whom the atia associate with Water Arc magic. Innicas is believed to be married to Physis, the Goddess of the Earth, because together they cultivate the land and bring life to it, under the glow of Auraura. Mirvina, the Princess of the Skies, is their daughter.

Worship

Innicas is overlooked by many of the atia. Only those who practice Water magic, or those who live by the sea and/or sail upon the seas are seen to be wearing sapphires.

Physis, Goddess of the Earth

Appearance

Physis is the earth, and nature. Her colours are green and brown. Her stone is jade. Hers is the first quarter of the year - spring.

Domain

Physis is the goddess of the earth, animals and trees.

The atia associate her strongly with Earth Arc magic. She is wed to Innicas, Father of the Waters. Together they birthed Mirvina.

Worship

Physis is one of the most important deities of the atia. The atian empire was built within the heavily forested region of Maleri and, while their homeland has long since been lost to them, many atia still maintain a strong affinity with Physis, for it was within her domain that supplied them with shelter and the basic tools needed for a strong civilisation.

Mirvina, Princess of the Skies

Appearance

Mirvina is seen within the clouds, the winds and the rains. Her colours are cream and grey. Her stone is a spinel.

Domain

Mirvina has dominion over the rains (not the seas, lakes, rivers, etc.), the sky, winds and thus, the weather. She is the patron of Air Arc magic. She is the daughter of the god of the seas and the goddess of the earth.

Worship

Though respected, many feel that Mirvina is in conflict with Auraura, for it is her clouds and rains which block out the warm rays of the sun and prevent warmth and brightness. She is seen as an unruly and wild child, who her parents, Physis and Innicas, are unable to control.

Despite this, rains are just as important as the sun, and thus she is seen just as necessary as Auraura, but far less pleasant.

Vraxux, He Who Ends

Appearance

Vraxux is the god of endings - usually of life, but it can be other things also. He is often associated with times of grief, sorrow or partings. His colour is black, and his stone is jet. His is the third quarter of the year - autumn.

Domain

Vraxux's domain is that of death and the end of things. The atia believe that when one dies, he or she is returned to the essence of magic to become part of the magical energies swirling around Iiosia. Vraxux is the god who makes this happen.

Worship

A somewhat unpopular deity, Vraxux's name is only mentioned during funerals and at times of great sorrow. It is customary for atia to acknowledge Vraxux at times like these.

Nieriel, the Winter Queen

Appearance

Nieriel appears whenever the temperature drops, ice forms, and the cold penetrates one's clothing to leave the body shuddering and chill. Her stone is the opal, and her colour is white. Hers is the fourth quarter of the year.

Domain

Nieriel is the goddess of winter, ice, frost and cold. She has no arc of magic attributed to her, but hers is the fourth quarter of the year.

Worship

Nieriel is largely feared, for the atia, with their frail form and low constitution, do not fair well in harsh conditions such as freezing colds. The atia respect what they fear, however, and thus she is not overlooked by any atia.

Luminus, The Moon, and the Guide

Appearance

Luminus, being the goddess of the moon and night, has dark blues and purples as her colour. Her stone, however, is a pearl, for that is how many feel the moon looks as it hangs in the blackness of the night sky.

Domain

Luminus is Iiosia's moon. She lights the way at night and guides travellers when the sun cannot. She is also associated with darkness, mystery and the unknown.

Worship

When caught out at night, when lost, or when in a dark, unknown place, an atia will see and think much of Luminus. Also, since she is seen as a guiding light in times of doubt and fear, she can
